Job Summary :

The Instructor of Driver’s Education Program is a part-time, non-benefitted, position that teaches non-credit classes offered to the LCCC service area community members.

The Driver’s Education Program Driver works directly with students to instruct them in the driving portion of the Driver’s Education class.

It is the responsibility of the Driver to ensure students receive the required instruction set forth for Driver’s Education by the Wyoming Department of Education.

The driver will work with enrolled students to assist them in becoming proficient drivers and ensure each student has completed the required driving and observation hours.

Progress of each student is reported to the Driver’s Education Instructor / Coordinator. This non-credit course is offered to our community members from across the LCCC service area.

Compensation : $30 per hour.

Priority Screening Date : Position is open until filled.

Tentative Start Date : January 16th, 2024.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions : this position is Non-Exempt, ., is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA.

This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative; other duties may be assigned).

  • Follow and comply with Chapter 39 of the Rules for Driver Education Program set forth by the Wyoming Department of Education.
  • Instruct students (. car control, defensive driving strategies, handling emergencies, driving in adverse conditions, auto safety, for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Work with Driver’s Education Instructor / Coordinator to set times they are available to drive students during the established Driver’s Education class dates.
  • Teach driving skills to students reinforcing technique and rules of the road.
  • Asses a students’ skills, knowledge and / or abilities pertaining to driving (. skills, related knowledge, progress, expectations, goals, insurance, for the purpose of providing feedback to students and parents.

Communicate student progress to the Driver’s Education.

  • Interact with a diverse group of students, parents and the public in a professional manner.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator / Instructor of Drivers Education to coordinate and communicate with instructors, students, and parents regarding program operations, instruction times, and requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Ability to safely operate and instruct the safe operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Knowledge of Wyoming Rules of the Road. Able to present the information to a variety of learners from diverse backgrounds.

Ability to communicate, both individually and in groups, in an effective and respectful manner.

  • Professional knowledge and ability within the discipline of assigned instruction.
  • Ability to continuously monitor and research changes in the industry and field of study and to adapt program offerings to meet these standards.
  • Ability to work in an environment of collaboration, cooperation, sensitivity and confidentiality in working with the public, students, colleagues and staff in both the classroom and campus
  • Skill in applying the appropriate teaching techniques and methods.
  • Ability teach course content that is consistent with the official course outline of record and use pertinent course materials at an appropriate level.
  • Ability to establish a student-instructor relationship conducive to learning and promote active involvement of students in learning
  • Working knowledge and ability with personal computing applications specifically Microsoft Office Suite (., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), Adobe products (.

Reader, Professional).

  • Knowledge of basic office equipment including (but not limited to) personal computer and associated peripherals, fax machine, multi-line telephone, voice recorders, and other electronic devices.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally execute the essential functions of this position with proven capabilities in establishing appropriate professional rapport, communicating with courtesy and tact, accurately determine other’s needs, collecting necessary information, and follow-through when requested.
  • Ability to travel when necessary.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions in oral, written, or diagrammatical form (., a flow chart of a process) and consider possible applications of discipline related literature and publications

Physical / Mental Demands :

To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data;

documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of employees, students, donors.

The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position;

there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required.

  • While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required including long workdays, evenings, and weekends as needed.
  • There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and / or students, past employees and / or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations.
  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities.
  • There may be multiple / daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and / or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor.
  • An employee must frequently lift and / or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 35 pounds to perform essential position functions.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Hold a Valid Driver’s License and ability to be insured by the College’s insurance provider

Preferred Qualifications :

Completion a defensive driving training course, has a background in transportation, law enforcement, of traffic education.

If you are selected for the position, your appointment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. LCCC reserves the right to end this employment agreement should the results of your background investigation not be successful.
